About Me
Hi, I am David (Dave), the person behind the scenes at Daves Dot Art. I am a self-taught dot mandala artist.
For my sins, my day job is as an IT manager and web designer. Dotting provides me an escape from the pressures that brings, along with allowing me to unwind from all the craziness of every day living.
From a young child I have always been crafty, often the messier the better. I’ve done resin craft, glass painting, paper crafting, one stroke painting and even oil painting (Bob Ross style). All of which I thoroughly enjoyed but I never really found them to be relaxing. In fact I would often end up just as stressed as if I’d done a full days work.
In 2019, pressures of work and home life required me to find a way to unwind which led to me taking to youtube to find a new arty pastime. I stumbled upon Kristin Uhrig and was just mesmerized and the beautiful pieces she was creating.
I ordered a cheap dotting stylus set off Amazon, and with the Folkart paints I had amassed from my one stroke painting ventures, I set about having a go. Well, the first few attempts were, lets just say, disasters.
But I didn’t give in. Spending many late nights watching more videos from artists such as Lydia May and Sue Sloane, I practiced and practiced often getting frustrated with myself. But with practice came improvement and as I improved I found that the process became extremely meditative and relaxing. Many hours would go by in what felt like a single hour.
Three years later I am still learning every day but just love this art form. Just placing a single dot in the centre, zoning out, and letting the art develop.

My dotting journey continues…….
